http://www.lloydminstersource.com/articles/article/2015-03-24-capturing-beauty-in-the-camera-eye#.VRuFOuH5hNR

When Karue Wachira looks through his camera, he is searching for beauty.

Whether it be portrait work or the sprawling prairie landscape, The Lloydminster photographer tries capture subjects that he finds aesthetically pleasing and share them with others.

“Beauty is what interests me the most. And unfortunately, or fortunately, for me I have a thing where I just find beauty everywhere,” he said.

Wachira is originally from Kenya, where ...

Karue Wachira was a closet photographer.

He would take photos all the time, sure, but sharing them? No. That just wasn’t his style. But sometimes a single action can change everything. Now, about four years after picking up his first DSLR, he reflects on that pivotal moment in his life when he held that camera in his hands and said:

“This is what has been waiting for me all this time.”

Now living in Lloydminster, he’s no longer shy about sharing ...

Local artist Karue Wachira is hoping to inspire people to be greener with his exhibit Butterflies of Karura at the Lloydminster Cultural & Science Centre.

The photography exhibit will be on display from August 25 to September 20 and will consist of a dozen photos of butterflies from a forest in Nairobi, Kenya.

“One thing I really noticed about Lloyd is a lack of trees and it’s a whole ecosystem thing, so I hope people will be encouraged through these butterflies and their natural habitat to want to see such beauty around their homes and around where they live,” said Wachira. “To encourage people to actually conserve and try and plant more trees.”

Wachira uses photography as a form of expression ...

In honour of the elephant
http://nairobibusinessmonthly.com/honour-elephant/

Over the years, the African elephant has been an endangered species, and the population of these docile African beauties continues to rapidly dwindle.

Meet Karue Wachira, a photographer who is at the fore front of saving the elephant using the power of his lens. To honour these tame beauties of the wild, he recently organized the Stop Ivory Trade photography exhibition in conjunction with the Kenyatta International Conference Centre and the Sarova Salt Lick-Taita Hills, to help raise awareness on illicit poaching and the ivory trade...

... He points to a beautiful photo of an elephant strolling into the sunset with its back turned to the viewer. This one in particular, he believes, captures his fears that unless something is done to stop the senseless poaching, the sun will set on the magnificent African elephant...

The butterfly aesthetics
http://www.standardmedia.co.ke/lifestyle/article/2000060332/the-butterfly-aesthetics

Karura Forest is a mine of natural phenomena. Photographer Karue Wachira captures one of the wonders – the butterflies – and mounts a beautiful exhibition. KIUNDU WAWERU experienced the unique show.

... Like a fisherman who must be patient after casting his nets, or the lioness in the plains of Maasai Mara after an antelope, Karue waited. He had observed that butterflies flew away from the slightest distraction...

... Most people might fail to notice the raw aesthetics the colourful exhibition depicts. Indeed, the Chairman of the Friends of Karura Forest, Professor Karanja Njoroge notes in the comments book.

“Incredible photography! Amazing beauty unnoticed by a busy eye. Hongera bwana Karue, I will keep one for myself.” ...

Butterflies of Karura forest, Nairobi, Kenya

There is an amazing place near Nairobi, the capital of Kenya — Karura forest recently opened to visitors. Kenyan photographer Karue Wachira made pictures of the forest butterflies, which can be seen today at The Butterflies of Karura Forest 2012 exhibition at the KFEET Centre.

Once Karura forest was a tasty morsel for quarrelling politicians and investors, but now it's a beautiful place for rest, walks and watching spectacular African animals which feel good and stay here cool, though it's not that far from the city centre...
